Values
My earliest memories of childhood begin at age seven, when my family immigrated to the United States. From that moment on, my parents instilled in me the values of honesty, hard work, and appreciation for this country and the opportunities it provides. At a young age, I learned that in America, if you truly work for something, your goals and dreams are within reach.
As I grew older, particularly during my middle school years, I became deeply patriotic and felt a strong calling toward service. That calling led me to set my sights on both the military and law enforcement. Looking back now, they were never just career goals but matters of the heart.
I grew up on the north side of Denver, where drugs and gang violence were part of everyday life. By the time I reached high school, I had lost friends to overdoses and gang-related violence. Those experiences reinforced my determination to choose a different path of one rooted in service, discipline, and accountability.
Career
After graduating from high school, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Unfortunately, my military career was cut short due to a medical condition sustained during School of Infantry training, and I received an honorable discharge. While that chapter ended sooner than I had hoped, it only strengthened my resolve to continue serving my community and this country.
In 1998, I was hired by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, where I served until 2023. During my time there, I spent many years as a detective, which allowed me to work across multiple divisions and gain a deep, well-rounded understanding of how a sheriff’s office truly operates, not just one unit or function. Later in my career, I was promoted to Sergeant, where I focused on mentoring and passing on the knowledge and experience I had gained to the next generation of deputies.
Career Transition
I eventually accepted a rare opportunity to join the Regional Transportation District Police Department in the Denver Metro area. At the time, RTD Police was building its organizational structure to operate as a full-service, modern law enforcement agency. I lateraled over as a Patrol Sergeant, where I supervised a patrol shift for approximately 17 months. I was then promoted to Lieutenant and tasked with building the RTD Police’s first-ever Detective Bureau.
Although this was my first command-level position, the responsibility was one typically assigned to senior command staff. Drawing on decades of experience and leadership, I successfully led the planning, development, and launch of the Detective Bureau in just ten months, an accomplishment I remain incredibly proud of.
Why I am running for Sheriff
Today, I see running for Sheriff of Weld County as the next opportunity to serve and strengthen a law enforcement agency I deeply respect. I bring a level of experience shaped by local, state, and federal partnerships, including work alongside some of the nation’s most prominent federal law enforcement agencies. I continue to give back by serving as a certified federal-level instructor in covert and undercover operations.
With 28 years in Law enforcement in various levels and divisions of the Sheriff’s office, I have an understanding of how effective command structures work together to achieve department goals.
My career has given me strong leadership, communication, and motivational skills that allow me to supervise, mentor, and support others. All while keeping high standards of accountability. It has strengthened my ability to work under pressure, meet critical deadlines, and analyze and prioritize tasks in demanding situations.
These experiences have given me a broad perspective on what works, what doesn’t, and how to adapt proven strategies to best serve a sheriff’s office and the community it protects. My commitment to serving the community and leading with integrity is what motivates me to run for sheriff.
My Family
My wife and I have lived in Weld County for the past 25 years and proudly call it home. We have been married for 30 years and raised our two children here. Both attended public schools in Weld County and went on to graduate from the University of Northern Colorado. Our son currently serves as a law enforcement officer, and our daughter works in the mental health field. Our family is deeply rooted in this community, and we are proud to be part of Weld County.
Serving others has never been just a profession for me, it has been a lifelong commitment. That commitment is what drives me to run for Sheriff and continue serving the people of Weld County with integrity, experience, and dedication.
